Come and help Sue, the Landlady of the Little Rose, celebrate her birthday on Saturday 4th November. The singing Duo of Dance Til Dawn will be performing live and free at the Little Rose from 8pm. The money paid will go to the craftsmen and women who have produced these beautiful items. My friend Jo, with whom I’ll be doing the event, has visited Bali over many years and still goes regularly to help the local communities and orphanages where support is greatly required.

This Friday 27th October sees the next Little Rose Pub Quiz, which takes place on the last Friday of every month. Teams of any number, up to a maximum of six, can take part. Cost of entry is only £10 per team with all the entry fees given out as cash prizes. First Question asked at 8pm. Just turn up on the night or book in advance. We can also make up teams from whoever turns up on the night. The quiz now takes place on the last Friday of every month. It’s great fun with a good number of all local teams taking part. There’s 6 rounds covering many topics including a topical quiz round as well as a picture round. The quiz finishes around 10pm with a break halfway through.

Free Children’s Halloween Party

The Little Rose, the last pub in the village, is holding a free Children’s Halloween Party on Saturday 28th October from 5.30pm until 7.30pm. It’s a fancy dress party and there’s prizes for the best outfit.

Later in the evening, there will be a special Halloween disco for adults from 8.30pm until late. Music will be from the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Our local micro brewery BrewBoard which can be found at Button End, Harston now open up their tap room to members of the public from 5-11pm every Friday.  At these events BrewBoard always host one of a selection of Cambridge’s finest food trucks enabling customers to relax at the end of the week with some great food and a pint or two of local craft beer!  They are also going to be opening up and showing all the England 6 Nations rugby games over the coming weekends.  Keep an eye on their website www.brewboard.co.uk for details of all upcoming events.

The Naked Scientists are a team of scientists, doctors and communicators whose passion is to help the general public to understand and engage with the worlds of science, technology and medicine. Chris Smith, a medical consultant specialising in clinical microbiology and virology at Cambridge University and its teaching hospital, Addenbrooke’s, laid the foundations for the Naked Scientists radio show, podcast and website back in 1999. He currently co-presents the Naked Scientists and has published 4 popular science books internationally. He lives just outside Cambridge with his wife, Sarah, who is a local GP.   Tuesday, 17th October. The Village Hall. 8 PM. All welcome.  Members and youngsters 16 and under free.   Visitors £2.50.

The Little Rose, the last remaining pub in Haslingfield, is restarting Sunday Lunches from 22nd October for TWO weeks only. They cost £5-95 for adults and £3-95 for children. There’s a choice of meats and a vegetarian option. The pub is still offering food throughout the rest of the week. If you’d like more information, either simply pop in and ask Neil or Sue or call them on 01223-870618. The pub is also organising a whole series of events in the build up to Christmas, watch this space for more details!

Don’t forget that for your vote to be valid you must complete and return your form to any Parish Councillor or the Clerk by midnight on Tuesday 31st October 2017.
We would encourage every villager on the electoral register to vote, to ensure that the answer we get from the ballot is truly representative of the views of the village. Irrespective of the number of ballot papers received, the answer that receives the most votes will determine whether or not Phase 3 is to be implemented
Remember, in a close contest your vote matters, and if you don’t vote you may end up with something you don’t want. – Jenny Jullien (Chair – HPC)
