Country Kitchen Closing

Country KitchenSadly, after 7 1/2 years of trading, Country Kitchen will be closing its doors at the end of August. As always, thanks go to the wonderful support from our lovely customers in and around the village and I hope you will join me in thanking the Country Kitchen partners and staff for the superb job they did in keeping the shop open, and well stocked during the tricky pandemic times.

Work will start in September to bring the building up to current building regulations standard (particularly the fire regulations), and to properly demarcate the division between residential and commercial space. Some demolition will take place on the single storey extension at the back, and it’s the perfect time to replace the windows with conservation sashes, and carry out some general work to refresh the building and smarten it up.

The least sustainable building is one that is empty, and as a great believer in sustainability, we’ll do our very best to complete this work as soon as possible. Watch this space for updates!

Country Kitchen List of Goods (1 May)

country kitchen logoTo all our valued customers, we hope you’re keeping well, staying safe and strong! We’ve compiled a list of goods we stock in the shop as an aide memoire to help you when phoning in and emailing orders. We’ve also popped one in the window. It’s not exhaustive, and it doesn’t itemise everything, but we hope it will be of benefit when you compile your shopping list!

Here is the list and you can also access it from our website here. Read more

Update from Country Kitchen (17 April)

country kitchen logoOur limit on contactless payments has been increased to £45, as this remains one of the safest means of paying.

We will be closed on Mondays from next week onwards, to give everyone an additional recovery day. Serving from the front door (and over the phone / via emails) is working very well, but it’s definitely harder work, and taking its toll! This is also in line with several of our suppliers, who are closed on Monday. However, we’re fully open from Tuesday – Saturday, and look forward to hearing from you or seeing you! Thank you, as always,  for your understanding and support

Country Kitchen Update (14 April)

country kitchen logo“We hope you’ve enjoyed a relaxing Easter in the glorious weather, even if it wasn’t the Easter you thought you’d be having. Certainly our Country Kitchen staff feel a bit more rested after the extra day’s break we enjoyed after an incredibly busy Good Friday, when we despatched (among other things) 120 Hot Cross buns! Country Kitchen Update (Sunday 5 April)

country kitchen logoThank you for your continued support while we all try and work through this pandemic. Country Kitchen will continue to trade, but our preference will be for telephone and email orders. Please check our twitter feed (which is also on our website on the Home page) for details of our stock levels. Read more

Country Kitchen Update (Sunday 29 March)

country kitchen logo“Thank you for your continued support while we all try and work through this pandemic. The system of serving customers from the door, taking orders via telephone and email (for you to pick-up, or local delivery for self-isolators) continues to be refined, and is going pretty well! Inevitably, this is a much more tiring way of operating than usual, and we’ve reduced our opening hours slightly again. New opening hours are 10 – 3 Monday to Friday and 9 – 3 on Saturday. This gives us extra time to have processed the morning deliveries, and make a head-start on deliveries before the doors open.

NEW Message from Pop at the Village Shop

Update on deliveries: We have the system in place now so anyone who needs delivery can create an account with us by paying in advance i.e. £100 (cash). Then whatever your total shopping bill will be deducted from your account. (Best way to keep everyone safe). All the receipts will be provided with each delivery so you can keep record as well. If this doesn’t suit you and you have a better idea we can discuss that. Read more

The Mower Man – Passing of an Era

Many of John Baker’s “loyal and entertaining customers” took up his invitation to a pie and a pint at River Lane on Saturday 11 August to celebrate his over 50 year’s service to the village, and well beyond.  Some were even observed to have more than one pint, while staying for the pasties (specially imported fresh from the West Country!) was well worth it.

Those not keen on mending their own garden machinery need have no fear – John will be reincarnated at new premises at Foxcotte Farm, Comberton Road, Barton, CB237BA, from early September, where the same mix of engineering skills and philosophical discussion will continue to be available.

Country Kitchen Turns 5!

Well, it seems like yesterday that we opened Country Kitchen, but it was in fact a whole 5 years ago. How time flies when you’re having fun! On Easter Monday we made a few changes to the shop, and are now pleased to have 2 deli counters. This allows us to have a dedicated deli counter for all the lovely home-made food we produce ourselves in the kitchen, and one for cheeses, olives, cured meats and other delicacies from our wonderful suppliers. The new arrangement will allow our continued expansion and growth, and provides a little more space for everyone.  Please do pop in and see the changes.  Last week we enjoyed birthday cake and bubbly that went down well with customers and staff alike!  We thank all our fabulous customers for your continued support and look forward to seeing you in the ’new look’ shop soon.
