Welcome to the first edition of our parish e-bulletin. It includes information and news from across Cambridgeshire County Council that may be of interest to our residents.
In a month when one particular election is very much in the news, I thought that this item from the Cambridge Independent Press in September 1913 would be of some interest.
Registering for a vote seems to have been quite complicated then. A Mr. Finney, the son of the Lord’s Bridge stationmaster, had to attend a hearing to claim for a lodger’s vote at the premises. Unfortunately for him, his father’s house was in two parishes – Haslingfield and Barton.
The son wanted to be able to vote in Haslingfield. The father pointed out that when his son was in bed his head was in Haslingfield and his feet were in Barton.
This caused understandable mirth in the court. Alas, the resolution of the case was not recorded.
Haslingfield’s very own Petanque team, who’re based and play at the Little Rose Pub, had another win on Wednesday 26th August, beating the Chequers Boulangers of Barley 5-0. They’re currently second in Division 1 of the Central Cambs League, but they have two games in hand. There’s 11 teams in their league and they’ve won 9 out of 12 games so far this season. Their next home game is a local derby against the Hare and Hounds of Harlton, and will take place on Wednesday 9th September, with the game starting around 8pm.
Village Shop & Post Office
The Village Shop will be open this August Bank Holiday Monday (31st) from 8am until 11am but the post office will be closed. It will be open as usual this Saturday (8am to 1.30 pm with the Post Office open 9am to 12.30pm) and Sunday (8am until 11am with the Post Office closed all day).

Skate Park
Skate park awareness! Respect the ramps… community get together for all ages and all skills. To take a bit of boredom out of the school holidays, lets all have a nice day together and enjoy our skate park! Fun for all the family. Saturday Aug 29th, 2pm on.
Enjoy a traditional cream tea with freshly-baked scones, jam and cream, in the informal woodland garden of The Dovecote, 29 High Street, Haslingfield.

This Thursday, 13th August from 5pm until 8pm, try out Provenance’s specially prepared fresh food in their wood fired kitchen.
Little Rose Opening Hours
The next Little Rose Pub Quiz will take place on Friday 7th August. Teams of any number up to a maximum of six can take part, entry is £10 per team with all the entry fees given out as cash prizes. First Question asked at 8pm. Just turn up on the night or book in advance. The date of the quiz has been switched to the first Friday of every month due to popular demand!

Match 12 Haslingfield Away at Linton: opportunity lost as Haslingfield lost by 60 runs? Three more debutantes welcomed this week; Dave Gerring, Kevin and Josh Bacon. This Saturday 25th July sees Haslingfield at home to Madingley on the village Rec with a 1.30pm start.

Match 11: perfect setting; the manicured grounds of Queens’ & Robinson, bathed in July sunshine sets the scene for this bottom of the table clash of Camden against Haslingfield. Haslingfield had eleven men again, with two newcomers Joel and Tony Ratnasothy.
