Haslingfield School Mosaic Project

The children at Haslingfield School have been spending time during their art lessons working on a whole school mosaic project. Mosaic making is a very slow process and the children, led by local mosaic specialist, Terry Baker, have worked together every Tuesday afternoon since January.

It started with them all being encouraged to draw suggestions as to what they would like to include, on the subject of nature and the local natural environment.  Trees, the local river and wild flowers were very popular so the panel was drawn out and the real work began!

Every child at school has contributed to the really terrific end result, and it is finally ready to be revealed!   Read more

Haslingfield Quarry (or clunch pit) is one of only two sites recorded by the Wildlife Trust in the three counties of Beds, Northants and Cambs which are home to the rare Man Orchid. This relatively undisturbed chalk grassland, a County Wildlife Site, also boasts Bee Orchids, Twayblades, Common Spotted Orchids and Pyramidal Orchids, as well as many other native wildflowers.

This walk and talk by Parish Councillor Clive Blower, organised by the Haslingfield and Harlton Eco Group, includes historical information about the Quarry and nearby cottages and an optional climb to the top of Money Hill, with 360 degree panoramic views across the south of the county and north to the spires of Cambridge.
