The Rec, Part III

After Chivers had donated another field to expand the recreation ground, the Badcock Trustees had enough money to build a cricket pavilion (on the site of the present one). It soon became obvious that this was a facility that many organisations in the village wanted to use, and a Village Concerts Committee was formed, which eventually raised sufficient funds for a billiard room and kitchen. Country Kitchen Sunday opening hours

From this Sunday, Country Kitchen are going to open from 10:30 until 14:00. This could work quite well because the other shop is open early and closes early as well, so this should cover a few more hours on a Sunday between both shops. Keep an eye out for the xmas display area coming (too?) soon!

Break-in at Village Hall

Village HallThere has been a break-in at the Haslingfield Village Hall during the night from 5th October – 6th October. 2 windows have been damaged and intruder(s) gained access by removing one of the windows overlooking the recreation ground. Apart from the damage to the windows it does not appear that anything has been stolen or damaged. Pies, Pies and Sausage rolls

Country Kitchen HalloweenCountry Kitchen has now been trading for six months and we’re still honing our product lines and growing our customer base. But one thing we do know for sure is that our best seller by a million miles are our sausage rolls, which we make on-site, followed closely by pies and then our quiches and other food cooked on-site. The village Tennis Club warmly invites you to this year’s Safari Supper which will be held on Saturday 23rd November, from 7pm. The Badcock Recreation Field

The Archives have just acquired a copy of an article written by J.G. Watson of Pate’s Farm in 1961 about the creation of the Rec. My next two postings will reproduce extracts.

Apple Saturday at Country Kitchen

apple dayHave you got masses of apples and at a loss as to what to do with them? Bring them along to Country Kitchen on Saturday the 5th October from 10h00 – 13h00. We’ll pulp them and press them (you and the kids can join in too!), and all you have to do is collect lovely, fresh apple juice to take home and enjoy. Please remember to bring your own containers in which to collect the juice!

Pub Under New Management

The Little Rose Pub is now under temporary new management. The pub is now open from 5pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and from noon on Saturdays and Sundays. It has also restarted showing sports on the TV. There are also plans for it to start offering food soon. More details as and when we get it.
