FOODBANK DONATIONS

A massive “Thank you” to everyone who supported the Foodbank in 2017, and especially those who brought so many wonderful Christmas treats along to the Charity Fair and the Village Shop.

As the gap between the “haves” and the “have nots” has increased and the need for Foodbanks is as important as ever, there will continue to be collection points at the Village Shop (where we really appreciate their support) and the Methodist Church this year. Read more

Charity Fair – November 2017

The Charity Fair, organised by Haslingfield Methodist Church, was as popular as ever and the church was packed with people buying from the stalls of the 17 charities and then enjoying delicious home-made refreshments. As well as being a collecting point for shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, there was also an area where people were able to leave items for the Cambridge Foodbank.

An amazing £2,797.50 was raised at the Fair and we would like to thank everyone for their support for these worthy charities.

On Tomorrow, 9 January: Pop-up Coffee Shop – Methodist Church

Do come along to the  Pop-Up Coffee Shop at the Methodist Church from 8:45 – 11:30am tomorrow, 9 January which will be raising funds for Home-Start Royston & South Cambridgeshire, a charity which helps local families in need of practical and emotional support.

History of Haslingfield Village Hall (part III)

(cont…) However by 1974 the wooden hut was in a poor state of repair and was knocked down. A new part wooden, part brick hut was built in its place which lasted to the early nineties when plans had been made to build a new village hall.
As there was no easy funding available in those days nor was there a lottery fund available, there was a significant amount of opposition to the idea of a new hall as the costs for a new hall were estimated to be in excess of £150k (actually £154k).

Many people believed this was just too expensive for a small village and many people believed that the existing wooden hall or the hall in the primary school would be good enough to serve the community. (tbc)
