This Friday 27th February sees that next Quiz Night at the Little Rose Pub with Cash Prizes. Teams of any number up to a maximum of six can take part, entry is £10 per team including nibbles. First Question asked at 8pm. Just turn up on the night or book in advance. All of the entry fees are given out in prizes. The last quiz saw the winning team go home with £40 and cash prizes for other places.
Also, any village club, society or group are welcome to use the newly decorated Lounge bar for meetings or get togethers for free. Simply turn up when the pub is open and make yourself at home.
The pub sells a wide range of drinks including real ales, real cider, teas, coffees, lager, spirits and soft drinks alongside food and welcomes families with children of any age. Read more

There’s a Free Cocktail for the Ladies and free live music is being held this Saturday 14th February to celebrate Valentines Day at the Little Rose Pub. The Live music is from the duo The Weekenders who’ll be playing music that everyone likes. It all starts at 8pm.

Film Club

movie-cameraThe next film Club meeting will be at 7.30pm on Friday 13th February 2015. We shall meet in the Methodist Rooms.  Running time is 105 min., Certificate U, and we will break for refreshment halfway through. To avoid having a fixed charge for each evening we have opted (for copyright reasons) not to advertise details of the film on notice boards, in the village magazine or on the web site.  Please let me know of anyone who would like to be included on the club mailing list in order to receive details.   Admission is free – we simply ask for donations from those attending to cover the cost of the film, tea, filter coffee, biscuits and use of the room.  All welcome, do invite friends.  phildale48@aol.com

This Wednesday 11th February, Bingo returns to the Little Rose Pub with cash prizes. First number will be drawn at 8pm. Just turn up to take part. The last bingo session last month had prizes of £5 for a line and £10 for a full house for the first five games, then £10 for a line and £20 for a full house for the second five games. The final game, the Flyer, had a top prize of £70. All the entry fees are given out as prizes. Each book gives you 10 games, you can buy six books for £6 or £1 per book, with 6 Flyers for £3 or 3 Flyers for £1.50 plus an optional raffle ticket at £1 per strip. The Bingo takes place at the pub on the Second Wednesday of every month.

Should South Cambs Help Save Village Pubs?

At the moment, a village pub like the Little Rose, can be demolished or changed into a shop or office without having to get planning permission to do this. South Cambridgeshire District Council is currently seeking views concerning the proposed use of something called Article 4 directions which could be used to prevent this and therefore help retain village pubs. WimpoleHum!  Appearances can be deceptive! And Wimpole Hall is no exception.  We think we know it all as the beautiful house and grounds on our doorstep.  However, all is not what it seems.  Some of the more surprising aspects are revealed in the Haslingfield Village society talk on Tuesday, 17 February.  Haslingfield Village Hall, 8:00PM.  Veronica Bennett is a volunteer speaker for the National Trust East of England Regional Talks Service.  Our talks are open to everyone; a small charge is made to non-members.  See you there.

Come and watch the U’s in the FA Cup 4th Round Replay this Tuesday 3rd February. Match Kick Off is 7.45pm. All Welcome, especially families. Can the U’s cause the biggest upset of the fourth round?

 

Haslingfield Little Theatre receives two Award Nominations

We are delighted to announce that the National Operatic and Dramatic Association East Region (NODA) have nominated us for two awards: Best Play 2014, and Best Technical 2014 for Sets and Props.

They have one vacant plot so if you have “green fingers” and want to grow your own produce or just want to know more then please come along.

Wine & Cheese Evening at Haslingfield Primary School – sponsored by Waitrose

wine and cheeseYou are warmly invited to a wine and cheese evening, sponsored by Waitrose, at Haslingfield Primary School on 5 February 2015 at 7.30 p.m. A Waitrose sommelier will talk us through a variety of wines and of course there will be plenty of tasting! A light buffet of cheese, crackers and fruit is also included in the ticket price. Please join us for what will be a great early Valentines evening or a night out with friends.

Tickets available in advance from the school office, or by email to ptfahaslingfield@gmail.com, at £10 each. All proceeds to benefit the school swimming pool which offers pupils weekly swimming lessons and after school swimming clubs during the summer term.
