There is free live music this Saturday 19th November at the Little Rose Pub. Village resident, Tiffany, will be performing songs from a wide era from 8pm at the village’s last remaining pub. The pub has just announced a full programme of events taking place throughout the whole of December to mark the festive season.
A new series of Haslingfield Young Little Theatre Workshops for Beginners is starting in the New Year in Haslingfield Village Hall. Did you know that Haslingfield Little Theatre has a Youth Fund? The purpose of the Fund is to promote the involvement of young people from 8 to 18 years old in the performing arts. The fund is open for children from Haslingfield, Harlton and those connected via Haslingfield Young Little Theatre. At present the sum available is £200. The amount awarded is at the discretion of the Haslingfield Little Theatre (HLT) Committee. For more details, please click here

“John Henslow and the Education of Charles Darwin” by Professor John Parker Director of the Cambridge U. Botanic Garden for 14 years and a Professor in the Plant Sciences Department. While at Cambridge Darwin fell under the influence of John Henslow, Professor of Botany, and attended all his lectures, practical classes, excursions and soirees. Henslow recommended Darwin for the Beagle voyage. The talk explores the research and teaching programme of John Henslow to establish what Darwin gained from him and which equipped him for his later achievements.

Tickets are now available for Haslingfield Little Theatre’s next production: Peter Pan – the original play by JM Barrie. Performances will take place at Haslingfield Village Hall on Thursday 24 November, Friday 25 November and Saturday 26 November. Children in the audience are very welcome to dress up as their favourite Peter Pan character.

The next Little Rose Pub Quiz will take place this Friday 4th November from 8pm, after the free pub fireworks display. Teams of any number up to a maximum of six can take part, entry is £10 per team with all the entry fees given out as cash prizes. First Question asked at 8pm. Just turn up on the night or book in advance. The quiz takes place on the first Friday of every month. It’s great fun with a good number of all local teams taking part each month. There’s 6 rounds covering many topics including a picture round and it finishes around 10pm with a break halfway through.
Free fireworks for all the family and a free hotdog for all children this Friday 4th November as the village’s last pub celebrates Guy Fawkes night. Fun starts at 6.30pm so just turn up to enjoy the celebration. If you fancy, you can stay on to take part in the Pub Quiz that starts at 8pm.
The wall along our High Street and Broad Lane has its own story to tell. On Tuesday, 18 October at 8:00 PM in Haslingfield Village Hall, Michael Coles, resident archaeologist and historian, relates its tale in Bricks to Build With .Who made those early bricks? Where did they come from? When were they made for this and other buildings in South Cambridgeshire? Bricks are not just bricks you’ll be surprised to learn! Everyone is always welcome to our meetings. Enjoy a chat at refreshment time. Members and school aged children free, small charge for non-members.
