The roadworks on Chapel Hill have now commenced. The contractor advises that, although the start was delayed, the roadworks should still end on May 17th 2019. Please note that there is also a road closure on Church St, Harston between 7th – 10th of May so both roads will regrettably be closed at the same time. This issue has been escalated to the County Council.
Attached is the agenda for an additional planning meeting on Wednesday 1st May. This notice was put up on the Parish Council notice boards on Thursday 25th April 2019.20190501 Planning Meeting
More than 20 people turned up on Sunday to tidy and clean the village, with an encouragingly high proportion of children taking part. Areas tackled included: Porkers Lane and River Lane; Harston Road; Wisbeys Yard; The Recreation Ground and Skatepark; Broad Lane to High Street; Wellhouse Meadow; High Street to Church Street and New Road footpath.
Three favourite quotes of the day:
Passer-by to fellow Parish Councillor – “What did you get your ASBO for?”
Husband to wife, child and dog when leaving home to help – “ It’s a really worthwhile thing you are doing!!”
And child to her father – “Can we do this every month?”
A huge thank you to everyone who took part on Sunday and to the many villagers who litter pick on a regular basis when out walking.
The weather is looking good – a perfect day to help out with Haslingfield Spring Clean
As well as litter picking, we plan to ‘clean up’ certain areas within the village, e.g. the playground. Teams will be provided with gloves, litter-pickers and bin-bags (supplied by SCDC), a few hi-vis waistcoats will also be available. Just come along to the Village Hall between 9.30 am to 11 am or 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm. We look forward to seeing you, even if it’s just for half an hour. Jenny Jullien 4 April 2019
For the first time Haslingfield are joining in the Keep Britain Tidy Great Spring Clean initiative.
We need teams of volunteers to help. As well as litter picking, we plan to ‘clean up’ certain areas within the village, e.g. the playground.
Other suggestions for areas that need attention are very welcome. Teams will be provided with gloves, litter-pickers and bin-bags (supplied by SCDC), a few hi-vis waistcoats will also be available.
Or just come along to the Village Hall from either 9.30 am or 2.30 pm on the 7th April. The Village Hall will be open from 9.30 to 11.00 am and 2.30 to 4.30 pm.
A reminder that East West Rail are seeking feedback to their consultation on the proposed rail section between Bedford and Cambridge. There are five routes being considered – we encourage you to read the information provided and give your feedback at www.eastwestrail.co.uk/haveyoursay before the deadline passes on Monday 11th March 2019.
The Parish Council will meet on Monday 11th March at 7pm in the Village Hall. The first 30 mins (maximum) of this meeting will be used to discuss the East West Cambs Rail consultation and to agree the Parish Council’s response. After this item, the agenda reverts to its normal running order. Agenda HPC Meeting 11 March 2019
Members of the public are welcome to attend.
4-11 March: UK Power Networks have advised that they will be undertaking upgrade work on the overhead lines in various locations along the High St / Harston Rd requiring some traffic control measures.
Concerns have been raised locally that the 75 bus service is being withdrawn. Cambs County Council have, however, confirmed that this is incorrect and it is the contract for this service that is expiring. Apparently bus operators have already submitted their applications as part of the re-tendering process and County Councillors are expected to vote on this in March (date tbc). Previous advice was that they expect to maintain services in the short term. The Parish Council has, however, taken this opportunity to write to our assigned County Councillors to both point out the value of this service to its users and seek their reassurance that it will continue.
