Brook Cottage is still there not much altered outside. The Charles family are recorded back to the 17th century in the parish and are mentioned in our book ‘Haslingfield – An ordinary village?’

I am a descendant of the Charles family who lived in Haslingfield. Elizabeth Charles was my Grandmother and her sister Caroline lived at Brook Bank Cottage, River Lane. During the war we visited Aunt Carrie three times once when our home in Kent was destroyed by a bomb in 1940 when I was six. I went to the village school on each occasion and became friendly with some of the children. I learnt to swim in the river and would love to know if the thatched cottage is still there.. If it is I am sure there would have been the addition of some of the conveniences which were lacking at the time of our stay. No running water or electricity and a primitive outside toilet. I wonder if there are any Charles descendants living in the village and whether the farm where my Grandmother grew up is still there. I do not know its name. I have fond memories of Haslingfield. With very best wishes. Ann Treasure (nee Slater).
