Vegetable GardenThe Haslingfield Allotment Gardeners Association (HAGA) is having some vacant plots on the site between Haslingfield and Harston so if you have “green fingers” and want to grow your own produce or just want to know more then please contact the secretary Jon Spain by email jrspain1@hotmail.com or telephone 01763 262007. Annual rent for a full size plot is £15 and it is open to Haslingfield residents and residents of surrounding villages. We have both full size and half size plots available.

Harlton Hare and Hounds Community Pub

hare-hounds-2For all Haslingfield residents who are interested in the Hare and Hounds Community Pub proposal, the steering committee is organising a “POP UP PUB” event. They would love you to join them on:

Friday 18th November in the Harlton Village Hall. Doors open at 6.00 pm until 11.00 pm.

You will be able to purchase beer, wine, spirits, soft drinks. Play some traditional pub games and there will be  entertainment from a local musician. Hear the latest progress on the bid to buy the Hare and Hounds pub.

Dr Jane Hellyer-Jones (Hawking) to Speak at the Methodist Church

aamethodist-logoDr Jane-Hellyer-Jones will give a talk at Haslingfield Methodist Church on
Sunday 27th November at 6.30pm.  She is the former wife of Stephen Hawking and her character is featured in the film ‘The Theory of Everything’.
Her title is ‘From Fact to Film to Questions of Faith’.
She will reflect on aspects of her life from her time as Mrs Stephen Hawking to today.  The evening will begin with a short time of worship during which Jonathan, Jane’s husband, will play the organ.  This will be followed by a talk by Jane, refreshments and informal discussion.  Everyone welcome.

There is free live music this Saturday 19th November at the Little Rose Pub. Village resident, Tiffany, will be performing songs from a wide era from 8pm at the village’s last remaining pub. The pub has just announced a full programme of events taking place throughout the whole of December to mark the festive season.

Haslingfield Little Theatre Youth Fund

HLT logo 2Did you know that Haslingfield Little Theatre has a Youth Fund? The purpose of the Fund is to promote the involvement of young people from 8 to 18 years old in the performing arts. The fund is open for children from Haslingfield, Harlton and those connected via Haslingfield Young Little Theatre. At present the sum available is £200. The amount awarded is at the discretion of the Haslingfield Little Theatre (HLT) Committee. For more details, please click here

Certificate: PG.  We will break for refreshments half way through.  Following discussions with Film Club members, we plan to use subtitles.

Next Village Society Talk

“John Henslow and the Education of Charles Darwin”
by  Professor John Parker  
Director of the Cambridge U. Botanic Garden for 14 years and a Professor in the Plant Sciences Department.

While at Cambridge Darwin fell under the influence of John Henslow, Professor of Botany, and attended all his lectures, practical classes, excursions and soirees.  Henslow recommended Darwin for the Beagle voyage.  The talk explores the research and teaching programme of John Henslow to establish what Darwin gained from him  and which equipped him for his later achievements.

Distraction Burglary – Sawston

eCops logoPlease note there has been a distraction burglary reported today 2 November 2016 between 09:00 – 09:45 hrs.  The incident took place at Sunderlands Avenue, Sawston.
The householder was cold -called by a male offering to do some gardening work, the price quoted was £90 which was then reduced to £50 when the householder declined the service.
The victim gave the male £50, and directed the male to the back garden locking the front door as they went.  A second and third male then appeared. While the victim was looking for tools in the garden shed, the third large build male then blocked the victim’s view of the rear of the house and any exit route.
A short time later a relative asleep inside the house, woke to see a person leaving the kitchen, later the victim noticed a laptop and £250 cash had been stolen. Crime ref: CF 0498971116
