Some likely lads recently stole a large section of tree trunk from a bank in the Glebe Wood opposite the parish church. In the spirit of village togetherness let’s hope it went towards keeping their dear old mother warm as winter draws on. But we hope that the habit will not spread. The management plan for this bit of woodland includes felling the occasional wild damson tree to make room for planting a variety of species, and we use the timber to edge the footpath. Anything ‘just lying there’ has a purpose and is not surplus to requirements.

‘BOTHER WITH BEES’, an important matter and the subject of a talk by Dr Bill Block, a local beekeeper, whose is an Emeritus Fellow of the British Antarctic Survey. Insect pollination contributes hugely to British agriculture and honey bees play an important role in it. Beekeeping has changed dramatically over recent decades with pests and diseases increasing in importance together with changes in agriculture. After an introduction to modern beekeeping, Bill will discuss how these challenges are being met. Tuesday, 21st October 2014, Haslingfield Village Hall, 8:00 PM. Everyone is mst welcome. Members and school age free. Small charge for visitors.
Live Music with Billy Jester aka Jimbo from the Elms in Haslingfield at the Little Rose Pub on Saturday 25th October. Free Entry. Music Starts at 8.30pm.
Thank you to everyone who took part in the sustainable parish energy partnership projects last year in the village. We had a great turnout at our Energy Day and fantastic feedback from the Thermal Imaging surveys – hopefully it was all useful!
This year we are not running any events in the village, however SPEP is still operating across the district and everyone is welcome at neighbouring parish events! We can also still organise for residents to borrow and use various equipment from South Cambs, including Energy monitors and the NEW energy saving light bulb library all for FREE!
