Guided Orchid Walk to Haslingfield Quarry: Sunday 11th June, 2 pm

Meet at the bottom of Quarry Lane (back of Chestnut Close).

Haslingfield’s ancient clunch pit, used in medieval times for building materials for some of the colleges as well as All Saints Church, is now a rare chalk grassland rich in wildflowers, including at least four species of orchid. Join this guided walk, led by Clive Blower, which is part of the Cambridge Nature Festival (https://www.cambridgeppf.org/Event/cambridge-nature-festival) to learn more of the history of this special area and how to identify the orchids.

Booking not required, walk leaves at 2 pm sharp. Questions to hasandharlecogroup@gmail.com

Again pleasant memories of times over 60 years ago. Visits to the quarry through the seasns introduced and showed the natural cycles of plants and aimals, insects and reptiles. The orchids a special treasure, and never picked. Nature walks around the quarry were part of education in the school.
Orchids like those in the quarry are in my nearby public park, and on the verges of cpuntry roads; A joy to see.

Yes, at the top of the hill called Quarry Lane. We call it Haslingfield Quarry because there is also a quarry at Harlton which villagers also call “The Quarry”.
