Neil & Sue
In July 2014 the Little Rose was bought by a property company called Wrenbridge, taking it out of Greene King Breweries control. This means the pub is now a proper, true Freehouse so it can sell whatever real ale, lagers, wines and spirits it wants to. Neil and Sue Poole took over the running of the pub under Wrenbridge. They’ve lived in Haslingfield for forty years and are well known in the village. A Little Rose Support Group has been set up by Keith Murray (keithmurray0@gmail.com) which registered the pub as an Asset of Community Value, which gives it a small amount of protection. The pub is now open 7 days a week and sells food. It also warmly welcomes families and children, it has a special menu for children with all the meals costing just £3-00, a special selection of children’s drinks and a children’s play area in its garden. The pub also sells teas and coffees. The pub’s long term future is still uncertain and the support group is doing all it can to make sure the village’s last remaining pub remains open and a key part of village life. In September 2013 The Rose was turned over to MetroInns Ltd as a going concern and is now managed by Alison and Steven James. Keep an eye on the A boards, the Village Shop and the village web site to see what’s going on at our village pub. Or even pop in to see for yourself! Everyone is welcome.
The Little Rose was taken over by Rick and Niki Turner in February 2010, prior to which it had not been in good shape.
Rick and Niki came to Haslingfield from the Newmarket area where Rick was an HGV driver and Niki a PA with Cobham Defense Group. Prior to that, the couple ran The Crown in Burwell for four years during which time they were voted Best New Licensees in the East of England by Greene King for their hard work and dedication in turning the Crown from a down trodden pub into the thriving success that they passed back to Greene King in 2006.
The Little Rose was completely renovated during 2010, including a brand new kitchen, comprehensive redecoration and a restored family garden. 200 people turned up to the official re-opening! The fresh surroundings compliment the good atmosphere along with some fine ales, excellent beers & wines, and good pub food.
