Little Rose Wins Community Pub of the Year

Landlords Neil and Sue with their Award

Landlords Neil and Sue with their Award

The Little Rose Pub has won the Rural Community Pub of the Year Award from the Cambridge and District Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra).

It’s in recognition of what Camra thinks is the way that the pub is rapidly becoming a focus of the village community since Neil and Sue Poole took charge of it in July last year. Camra cited things like the Parents and Todlers group that meets once a week there, Bingo, the Quiz, and wide variety of sports teams as well as special events like Wakes, Live Music and Charity Fundraising Nights as reasons for why the Little Rose has won the award.

Should South Cambs Help Save Village Pubs?

At the moment, a village pub like the Little Rose, can be demolished or changed into a shop or office without having to get planning permission to do this. South Cambridgeshire District Council is currently seeking views concerning the proposed use of something called Article 4 directions which could be used to prevent this and therefore help retain village pubs. It’s something that the Little Rose Support Group has explored and supports, as does the Campaign for Real Ale (CamRA). For more info and to take part and submit your views online, please click “Read More” below:-

CEMEX Barrington Site Plans

The planning application for housing on the Cemex cement factory site in Barrington will NOT be going before South Cambridgeshire District Council’s planning committee meeting on 4 February. It now seems likely that this will be decided at the South Cambs Planning committee meeting on 4 March 2015, but this will be confirmed nearer the time. All planning meetings start at 10am and are held at South Cambs HQ in Cambourne (which is clearly signposted). It is no longer possible to comment on the application. But if you are able to come to the meeting to demonstrate to councillors how important this issue is to our communities, it would be very much encouraged. To speak at the meeting then you need to contact the planning support officer, Ian Senior, on 03450 450 500 by no later than noon on the Monday before the meeting as a public speaking protocol applies.
