Can anyone confirm whether there is any protocol on door-to-door collections for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal in Haslingfield ?
I was visiting my elderly mother last week & a collector came on Wednesday, & we contributed, receiving 2 poppies.
My wife just tells me that when I was out shopping on Thursday, another collector came, & did not leave swiftly when my mother couldn’t find cash, or even after seeing the poppies already bought.
I hope both collectors were legitimate, but even if so, I am concerned that elderly residents are being doorstepped repeatedly for contributions, however worthy the cause.
Any clarification would be very welcome.

A message to confirm the Franco-British quiz for cancer research will take place on
June 14th, at the established vineyard venue, with tastings and local specialities to try.
The pub’s quiz enthusiasts, along with other groups will be very welcome.

A springtime word from France.
Followng several weeks of hospital treatment to repair a shattered knee, now back home and catching up. The care received of a very high standard.
I see the pub quizzes are continuing. The longstanding invitation to visit for the annual
Franco-British quiz I organise to aid cancer research remains open. The evening is
informal, and totally bi-lingual, with tastings of our local wines in a chateau vineyard
setting. The date is likely in June.
Travel, low-cost, Stansted to Toulouse. Bookable online. Arrangements at this end
made as required. Local places of interest can be recommended to make a short visit memorable.
The welcome will be open, despite ongoing machinations.

Holidays are now with us. Opportunities to recharge minds and bodies. Visit new and
unfamiliar places.
France has always been the world’s leading destination with its abundant attractions, and hospitality.
We’ve all seen in the news the sickening events over the past months in our cities.
A state of emergency is in place for a further 6 months. Life on a daily basis goes on.
To those from the village coming to France, may I suggest, that some extra patience
is shown at points of entry where security is tighter than before. Have all relevant
documents to hand. Answer questions calmly and politely, if asked.
In the course of travelling and visiting France the Gendarmerie and Police Nationale
will be patrolling the roads, railways and town streets. A reassuring presence.
In traditional ‘France profond’ visitors are welcome; recent UK events notwithstanding.

Great Fireworks, thanks! I grew up in Haslingfield but now live in London – for the last few years we’ve come back for the fireworks. It’s a great family occasion, the fireworks are amazing and the kids and I really enjoy it. Well done for making it happen in spite of all the rain.
