Country Kitchen opening soon!

country kitchen logoCountry Kitchen will open on Saturday the 6 April, supplying fresh meat, fruit, vegetables and many other deli delights!

Opening times are going to be :
Mon – Fri :  9am – 6pm
Saturday :  9am – 4pm

It is being run by a co-operative of 7 women, all from Haslingfield and surrounding villages. Jennie lives in Haslingfield, Heather in Harlton, Liz in Barrington and Morven and Jill in Foxton. Shirley is from Orwell and Tessa now lives in Horningsea, but has lived in both Haslingfield and Barrington for many years.

Our emphasis is going to be on providing good quality and affordable goods, using local suppliers and partnerships and cutting out food miles as much as possible. We can’t compete with supermarkets, and neither do we feel as though we are going to be as exclusive as the nearby deli shops. We plan to supply fresh meat, fruit / vegetables / herbs and store cupboard essentials, eggs, milk, a deli counter of cheeses and cooked or cured meats, fresh olives & sundried tomatoes, fresh bread & pastries (baked on the premises), pies & quiches. There will be a small selection of delicacies such as smoked salmon, sauces and cheese accompaniments. We’ll also be making on-site seasonal soups and salads and sauces, to be taken away, and sandwiches, teas and coffees. And lastly, there will be a good selection of wines, cards and giftware. Fresh flowers and seasonal plants will also be on display, so you can pop in for that last minute present you forgot to buy earlier!

We have some time-saving ideas for the busy family, the commuters and working folk, as well as those living on their own, not wanting to waste food. More details to follow – watch this space!

If you’re a local supplier, please do contact us on l.galpin@btinternet.com and scally49@aol.com

At the moment, our web-site is under development, and we’re refining our recipes, products and supplier lists. We’re intending to make use of internet marketing, apps,  facebook and twitter, links of which will be published as soon as they are available.

Support for local groups and village activities will always be uppermost in our priority, but we realise the need to spread the net a little wider in terms of marketing and publicity, to increase footfall and ultimately enable us to run a profitable business. More details on the suppliers we’re using, as well as the products we’ll be making on-site and our opening week special offers will be made available as soon as we’re ready to publicise these. Already we’ve had many people popping their heads through the door, reading our notices and generally being enthusiastic about the shop, which is great. Although most of the renovation and re-organisation of the shop layout is now complete, rest assured that we’re all beavering away to sort out all the myriad of items that need to be ready for opening day. We hope to see you in the shop once our door is open!

Jennie, Heather, Liz, Jill, Morven, Shirley and Tessa
