M11 junction 9 to 10: bridge repairs

National Highways are continuing their work to replace the expansion joints, re-waterproof and resurface the M11 junction 9 overbridge. This work will ensure the bridge continues to remain in a safe and serviceable condition.  They plan to complete this work over 4 weekends from Friday 11 March, weather conditions permitting.

To carry out the work safely, there will be a 50mph speed restriction on the junction 9 overbridge. They will also need to close the M11 between junctions 9 (junction with A11) and 10 (junction with A505) in both directions and divert traffic as detailed below:

M11 junction 10 to 9 southbound, full closure

Friday 11 March, 9pm to Monday 14 March, 5am

Friday 18 March, 9pm to Monday 21 March, 5am

M11 junction 9 to 10 northbound, full closure

Friday 25 March, 9pm to Monday 28 March, 5am

Friday 1 April, 9pm to Monday 4 April, 5am

Southbound traffic will be diverted off the M11 at junction 10 onto the A505 / A11. Exit the A11 using the A1307 slip road and return onto the A11 southbound to re-join the M11 at junction 9. Northbound traffic will follow the same diversion but in reverse.

They seem to have forgotten to take the 50mph signs down on the M11. AIUI, the works were completed in early-April, it’s now late May and there have been no works or any sign of anything beyond some left behind signs for several weeks now. It’s actually a bit dangerous, as some motorists are driving through at 70 since it’s obviously obsolete signage, whilst others are slamming on their brakes to obey the signs.
