Congratulations to the cricket club!!
It brings back memories of those days in the 70’s and 80’s when Haslingfield was as good as any in junior league. It was a pleasure to serve as secretary of the club for over 20 years, and play with such a team as we had then . As an elected member of the of the council of the Cambridgeshire Cricket Association I did what I could to help village cricket in the county. The embryonic BBC Radio Cambridgeshire doing twice weekly features in its sports reports. The Cambridge News doing likewise.
In the 1980’s Haslingield CC was recognised as a junior league team of the month, being awarded a ‘Maestro’ trophy from sponsors Marshall
in Cambridge.
There were annual matches with Cambridge United, then in the old second
division, to raise charity money for local centres like Meldreth Manor.
Thanks to the internet and the club website I can follow the exploits of the
current side. One I’m sure that will grace junior 1.
I raise a glass to them, and to next season.
