Your help needed in getting FASTER BROADBAND in Haslingfield

Do you know about the opportunity to get faster broadband for those of us on the Harston exchange (which includes Haslingfield) by voting on a BT website?

If 1000 votes are lodged for the Harston exchange we could be fast-tracked for an upgraded service, which will not only affect BT customers but those on other networks too.

The way to vote is to go to www.racetoinfinity.bt.com – it takes less than a minute to do, and as at Sunday 10 October , we still have quite a way to go before we reach the 1000 votes needed, so please “spread the word” after voting yourself.

    Hi,
Speeds will vary considerable depending the distance from the DSLAM ( Harston Tel Ex ) and the state of the internal wiring in your premises, I think 3Meg download and 500+ K upload would be the average across the village. I normally see 3.5 download and 900K upload. It may be that if you have a very slow speed, that the wiring in your house may need improving.

I suspect it depends where you are in the village, people living closer to the exchange in Harston, do better.

I think you may have a bit more than Broadband speed problems if you are only clocking up those speeds. I have averaged 4.5 for the past year and I am with BT 🙂
I get those speeds with an Orange dongle and that is unworkable in this village.

Just ran a test from inside the village on BT broadband. Results as follows:
    Download Speed: 1.42 Mbps
    Upload Speed: 0.36 Mbps

Apparently its faster nearer to the Harston exchange.

Considering moving to the area, what sort of broadband speeds are you getting now? I take it from the earlier post there is no mobile signal either, thanks

Sadly we are only at 556 … which is only 20%. Anyone have 444 friends they can contact today?

Since my vote the tally is at 413, so getting closer.
I am only a (regular) visitor to Haslingfield, but the combination of no decent broadband connection speed, non-existent mobile internet, and not even being able to send a text message is incredibly frustrating.
These are all services available in remote parts of Eastern Europe, so why on earth are they so scarce only a few miles from the so-called high-tech hotspot called Cambridge ?
Bill Gates would be horrified – and so am I !
