Hare and Hounds to Close
Alas, the Hare and Hounds pub is to close shortly after many years serving both Harlton and Haslingfield. Here is a message from Sue.
Dear Customers
It is with a great deal of deliberation, sadness and tears that I need to inform you of my decision to close The Hare & Hounds at the end of October. As you are aware I have been trying to sell the property for over four years without success and it is a real struggle to continue to make it financially viable. Many pubs are closing at a rapid rate as they become less popular than they once were and in small villages it is even more difficult to survive. Fewer and fewer people are going into the trade as they are now realising it is a lot of work for little reward and a very risky venture in which to invest.
I am sixty in October and feel the time is right to retire as I am finding it increasingly difficult due to my age, staffing problems and health reasons to keep up with the relentless workload. I wish to spend some time with Gerry and my family and I really felt that I couldn’t put my life on hold forever hoping for a sale, so at some point a decision had to be made.
The Asset of Community Value which was placed on the pub by the Parish Council earlier this year which gave me much upset and many sleepless nights was the final blow in making my decision for me as it would make the pub in my opinion even harder to sell and also reduce its value.
The kitchen will be closing and no more food will be available from Sunday 2nd October and we will no longer be opening weekdays at lunchtimes from this date but will remain open evenings and weekends until the end of the month for drinkers.
The pub will be closing completely on Friday 28th October and will cease to trade as a business from that point.
I would like to thank you all for your support over the last nine years that I have been here, it has been a fantastic time in my life with lots of memories to treasure. I couldn’t have chosen a better pub to run with a nicer group of customers.
I wish you all the very best for the future.
Sue
