Edible Gardens For This Year’s Scarecrow Festival
Haslingfield’s Bi-Annual Scarecrow Festival will take place this September. As I’m sure you know this gives villagers the oppourtunity to display their creative talents. If you grow, or keep, your own fruit, veg or livestock, why not show it off during the festival?
There have been some open gardens in recent years, and this year it is hoped that due to the rise in popularity of growing your own fruit and vegetables, and some people keeping their own livestock, we are hoping that as many people as possible will open their own garden, and maybe small-holding, to encourage local families to try their hands at some edible cultivation.
If you grow, or keep, your own, then we’d love you to take part and show everyone your pride and joy.
We are looking at anything from a pot of parsley to a poke of pigs, raised beds with colourful planting or an interesting water collection scheme. Anything that will generate discussion and enthusiasm.
The idea is that anyone taking part should choose one day to open, and one day to look at other peoples’ schemes.
You can sell refreshments as long as the profits go back into the village or a charity.
It is also hoped to produce a leaflet nearer the time setting out what gardens are open, what is growing and points of interest.
Anyone interested in taking part should call Jay on 870688 or e mail her at
Happy edible gardening.
