Preserving the Industrial Heritage of Cambridge

pumping engineVisit to the Cambridge Museum of Technology

Organised by the Haslingfield Village Society
Wednesday 10th September 2014 at 10.00 am.

We will be taken on a guided tour around the museum, based in Cambridge’s old sewage pumping station on Cheddars Lane.  This site was one of the earliest examples of recycling – the city’s rubbish being burned here to produce steam to power the steam engines to pump the sewage.  The Museum exists to preserve industrial exhibit material relevant to the Cambridge area, and on the tour we will learn about the development of power from steam, through internal combustion, to electricity.      GO TO ‘READ MORE’

The collections include:

  • The pumping station’s original equipment and other engines
  • A number of products manufactured by W.G. Pye of Cambridge
  • Letterpress-printing equipment ranging from early hand operated presses to power machinery
  • Instruments from Cambridge Instrument Company
  • Information and artefacts from local industries

Everyone is very welcome.  The cost for members is £4 adults (concessions £2.50) and £5 for non-members, inclusive of the guided tour and administration expenses. Coffee, etc will be available.

There is limited car parking and it would help if we can share transport.

If you would like to attend, please contact Jennifer 0n 01223 871518 or staples543@btinternet.com.   In the event of being oversubscribed a waiting list will be held.
