Speaker: Mary Dicken The talk considers the women who led the Suffragettes, how the movement began, the methods it used to publicise the cause, some of which were controversial, the propaganda both for and against giving women the vote and the final outcome. Breaking Rules: Causes of Young People’s Crime. This talk will summarize findings about young people’s lives, and crimes, and crucially, demonstrate the nature of the coming together of individuals and their environments that is at the root of crime. The speaker is Beth Hardie, research Manager of PADS+ ( Peterborough Adolescent and Young Adult Development Study, based at Cam. Univ. ) and co-author of ‘Breaking the Rules’. This study was hailed as ‘among the most significant works in criminology in decades’. Beth Hardie lives in Haslingfield. Tues., 18th February 2014 in the Haslingfield Village Hall at 8:00 PM. Bake-house Opening
It’s the last chance for this year. Come and see how the ancestors lived and browse the village archives of old documents and pictures. The 19th century Bake-house on Well House Meadow will be open between 10.00 am and 12.00 noon on Saturday 7th September. Bring a flask, join the gathering and brush up on your village history.

The Haslingfield Village Society’s season begins with a talk on the work of the Woodland Trust in Haslingfield Village Hall on Tuesday, 17 September at 8:00pm. If you go down in the woods today……. you are sure to enjoy it, most likely thanks to the Woodland Trust. Cambridgeshire is the least wooded county in England and the Trust is fighting to save the ancient woodland we have. With more and more species under threat, its work is of great importance.
