The next concert to be given by Haslingfield Choir and Orchestra, under the direction of their conductor Graham Walker, is on March 29th 2014, at 7.30 pm, in All Saints Church, Haslingfield.
The concert will begin with the overture to J.S. Bach’s 1st Orchestral Suite, a splendidly joyful work with oboes, bassoon and strings. Then, in keeping with the season of Lent, Graham has chosen two choral works by Bach: a short cantata O Jesus Christ, meins Lebens Licht for chorus and orchestra, and a more lengthy motet Aus der Tief ruf ich, Herr, zu dir – a setting of Psalm 130 – for chorus, soloists, oboe, bassoon and strings. The second half of the concert comprises Gabriel Fauré’s perhaps most popular work, his Requiem for chorus and orchestra and includes the much-loved Pié Jesu for solo soprano as well as the baritone solo in the Libera me.
