Street Voices is a band with a difference. It has a lively, mainly acoustic sound, meets regularly for practice, and is available for gigs large and small.
Its members are the vulnerably housed, people living in homeless hostels, and other members of the street community in Cambridge. The group provides an opportunity for people of any level of experience to bring their musical talents or just have a go, creating a lively musical mix that comes straight from the heart.
“These are songs that have been written and performed by survivors and will hopefully be an inspiration to anyone who hears them.” Nick Dominguez:
Organiser Kay Barrett says: When you listen to Street Voices, the depth of human experience in the group really shines through. Music is a beautiful way to communicate – it cuts across the barriers of suspicion and hostility to the common human condition we all share. Singing can be a wonderful and empowering thing for everyone, but how much more for people for whom it may be the only good thing happening in their lives.’
Hear Kay and Nick on local radio Star 107 at around 1.00 pm on 29th March
