NEXT WEEK – Great Live Theatre on your Doorstep!

CHARING CROSS ROAD POSTERNext week, Haslingfield Little Theatre will be performing 84 Charing Cross Road, the wonderful, funny and moving play about the correspondence between a New York writer, in love with English literature, and her English bookseller.

Tickets are still available for Thursday 15th, Friday 16th, and Saturday 17th May at 7.45 p.m. in Haslingfield Village Hall. Come and see some great live theatre and marvel how our village hall stage has been transformed into a New York Apartment and a London Bookshop!

World War I in Cambridge: Home and Front Line Contrast

Two features published in The Cambridge Chronicle in the early months of 1915 provide a sharp contrast between life at home and at the front. The first is a letter from ‘A Cambridge Lady:

“Sir – While the streets are so dark I think perambulators should not be allowed on the pavements after sunset, as they add considerably to the danger. I myself nearly had a fall owing to them, and several other ladies have had the same experience. There is, in addition, the risk of the perambulator being upset and the child seriously injured. Little Owls Invitation to Pre-schoolers

Little Owls Preschool LogoMost preschoolers will now know where they are starting school in September. Haslingfield Little Owls would like to welcome any pre-schoolers in the local communities and beyond who do not already attend Little Owls to come along and meet their new classmates. While pre-schoolers are welcome any day of the week, the Friday session is a pre-schoolers only morning.

The Fire Service needs Volunteers in your Village!

Fire & Rescue ServiceCambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service Community Champions scheme has been running for two years and now more volunteers are being recruited. The Champions promote fire safety in their communities by attending local events to promote fire safety, talk to local groups and organisations, and also refer vulnerable people to CFRS for home fire safety visits.

Comberton Village College Nearly-New Uniform Request

On behalf of the PTFA at Haslingfield Primary School, I plan to hold a sale of nearly-new CVC uniform in July. This sale is primarily intended for current Year 6 pupils who are preparing to start CVC in September 2014. However, all parents/carers are welcome to attend. (If you are not a current parent/carer of a Haslingfield School pupil, please email me at the beginning of July and I can confirm the date and time of the sale).

To make the sale a success, I need uniform!! So, please could any donations be taken to Haslingfield School Office at your own convenience. Film Club

movie-cameraThe next show will be at 7.30pm on Friday 25th April 2014 in the Haslingfield Methodist Church Rooms (seats on the back row are going fast!)  Admission is free.  Running time 113 min., Certificate PG and subtitles for the ‘Hard of Hearing’.  We shall break for tea/coffee and biscuits half way through and there will be a collection to cover refreshments and use of the rooms.
