New Manager at the Pub

From today (Wednesday 28th May) the Little Rose pub has a new manager, James McEwan. James has taken over from Alison and Steven James, and the pub is still being run by MetroInns Ltd. The company took over the tenancy of The Little Rose in September last year in a temporary deal with Greene King. James will be running the pub until its future is confirmed.

If you want to help to keep Haslingfield’s only pub open, then email keith@murraysouthwell.plus.com and he’ll bring you upto date with plans that are being formulated by a group of village residents.

The opening hours of the Little Rose will remain the same, Tuesday to Friday from 4 pm and from midday on Saturday & Sunday.  The pub still has SKY TV and will be showing all of England’s games in the World Cup on its giant screen.

Alison and Steve have moved to a pub in Norfolk. The MetroInns company is owned by Sean Driscoll and Gary Wood , and it manages a number of pubs in and around Bury St Edmunds, including their flagship The Masons Arms in the centre of the town.

  1. Dear Sir,
I ask a question, albeit from Europe.
Is there a correlation between the situation of the Little Rose and the recently published population profile of the village? The interactions of socio-economic dynamics perhaps.
In an area that has, reportedly, weathered the recent upheavals better than many, to see the only pub in the village facing uncertainty is saddening.
I recall quiz nights there, the pub won a BBC competition in the ’80’s.
After cricket at the weekend drinks with the team and visitors.
Looking to the future, an expanded pub that offered good food, and why not, accommodation, to attract a broader clientele. With the probable
arrival of Astra Zeneca adjacent to Addenbrooke’s, hospitality south of the city shouldn’t be overlooked.
The tourists to Cambridge and around another possibility.
A bit of courtship to set out the welcome mat.
The more traditional users would not loose their local.
    Just some thoughts.
    Neville James Cole
