Over his performing career he has played with various orchestras and ensembles, and is now establishing himself as a solo artist.<\/p>\n<p>Robin initially learned to play the lever harp, before moving on to the pedal harp, on which he completed a Bachelor of Music at Victoria University of Wellington, under the guidance of the principal harpist of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. \u00a0He then went on to complete a Masters of Music in Performance on the Triple Harp, which is a chromatic instrument with three rows of strings, instead of one, with no pedals or levers. Due to the prohibitive cost of buying a triple harp, in order to continue his studies Robin took a typical Kiwi approach, and ended up building his own instrument. He then taught himself how to play it from surviving sources. From those early days Robin has continued with harp making and exploring the capabilities of the triple harp.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A rare event.
