{"id":374853,"date":"2014-05-04T12:19:14","date_gmt":"2014-05-04T11:19:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/haslingfieldvillage.co.uk\/?p=374853"},"modified":"2014-05-04T12:19:14","modified_gmt":"2014-05-04T11:19:14","slug":"faith-to-live-by-service-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/haslingfieldvillage.co.uk\/dev\/?p=374853","title":{"rendered":"Faith To Live By Service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Sunday 11th May at 6.30pm our guest speaker at the Methodist Church\u00a0will be Dr Derek Nicholls.\u00a0 His title will be &#8216;Rural Roots: Strength or Stumbling Block&#8217;.\u00a0 There will be a short time of worship, an address, refreshments and an informal\u00a0discussion.\u00a0\u00a0Everyone welcome.\u00a0\u00a0<!--more-->Derek Nicholls was brought up in the most southerly circuit in England \u2013 37 chapels, mostly in small villages and some in isolation; half of them have since disappeared.\u00a0 Drawing partly on his own early years, he will reflect on the changing nature of rural Methodism and its role.\u00a0 Rural dwellers do not now expect to find all their shopping and entertainment needs met in their local village: why should people not go into towns for worship?\u00a0 Is an expensive building the best form of local Christian witness?\u00a0 Why is it that some rural churches are dying while others are in vigorous health?
