Many of John Baker’s “loyal and entertaining customers” took up his invitation to a pie and a pint at River Lane on Saturday 11 August to celebrate his over 50 year’s service to the village, and well beyond. Some were even observed to have more than one pint, while staying for the pasties (specially imported fresh from the West Country!) was well worth it.
Those not keen on mending their own garden machinery need have no fear – John will be reincarnated at new premises at Foxcotte Farm, Comberton Road, Barton, CB237BA, from early September, where the same mix of engineering skills and philosophical discussion will continue to be available.
Services for July that were omitted last month are in included here for those dates remaining.
The old bake house on Well House Meadow will be open on Saturday, 16 June , between 10.00 and 12.00 am. Selections of photographs and documents from the village archive will be on display, and members of the Village Society will be on hand to explain the history of the bake house and the various old artifacts that are stored there.

Please invite friends and let me know if there are others who would like to be included on the email list.
Well, it seems like yesterday that we opened Country Kitchen, but it was in fact a whole 5 years ago. How time flies when you’re having fun! On Easter Monday we made a few changes to the shop, and are now pleased to have 2 deli counters. This allows us to have a dedicated deli counter for all the lovely home-made food we produce ourselves in the kitchen, and one for cheeses, olives, cured meats and other delicacies from our wonderful suppliers. The new arrangement will allow our continued expansion and growth, and provides a little more space for everyone. Please do pop in and see the changes. Last week we enjoyed birthday cake and bubbly that went down well with customers and staff alike! We thank all our fabulous customers for your continued support and look forward to seeing you in the ’new look’ shop soon.
