Cambridge Open Studios in Haslingfield

This summer, Cambridge Open Studios will take place on the first four weekends of July. Haslingfield has one artist exhibiting this year – Terry Baker. Her studio and garden will be open from 11.00 a.m. until 6.00 p.m. on the weekends 16/17 July and 23/24 July. She will be showing many of the mosaic pieces she has made over the past 12 years, including the table-top map of Haslingfield that you can see on the masthead of this website.

She would be happy to see any Haslingfield folk, or those from further afield, who would like to find out a little more about her take on the ancient craft of mosaic.

The distinctive yellow flag will indicate an Open Studios venue – Terry Baker’s flag will be at the bottom of the Knapp, Haslingfield. Visitors are asked to walk up from the main road, as there is nowhere to park in the Knapp itself. There are also several other artists taking part locally – in Barrington, Orwell, Little Eversden,  Harlton & Harston.

Cambridge Open Studios, an entirely self-funded collective of artists and crafts-people, was founded in the late 1960s. Over the years since then, this group has grown to almost 300 participants, who open up their studio space to the public during the weekends in July.

The idea is to allow the public to see how original works of art and craft are made; to give them the chance to purchase or commission pieces directly from the maker; and to allow the artists to meet and share their passions with interested visitors.

Thank you SO much to the many Haslingfield folk who were among the 220 visitors to my first Open Studios recently. Despite the very heavy rain there was even someone on my doorstep as I opened up on the first morning! I had two very busy weekends, full of lovely conversations with many interesting and interested people, and some wonderfully encouraging comments in my visitors book. As a result of several requests I am planning to hold an introductory mosaic making course on the first Saturday of the month, beginning in October. I thouroughly enjoyed the whole experience, and hope my visitors did too.
